   Proposal Description:
   Evidence suggests that sleep disturbances are common in people with Dementia.  dementia and is associated with a multitude of negative consequences such as  distress, poorer disease prognosis, accelerated cognitive decline, caregiver  burden and more severe cognitive and neuropsychiatric symptoms. However,  compared to Alzheimer???s Disease (AD), much less is known regarding the role  of sleep in development and progression of Vascular Dementia (VaD) and the  preclinical stages of VaD such as Vascular Mild Cognitive Impairment (vMCI).  Whilst studies have highlighted sleep disorders such as insomnia and Sleep  Disordered Breathing (SDB) as risk factors for its development, there is still  much ongoing debate due to conflicting reports. Moreover, the majority of  studies have investigated sleep disturbances in terms of risk for the  development of VaD and consequently, few have sought to describe the prevalence  of sleep disorders for this cohort. As such, it is still unclear as to how  common sleep disturbances are for people living with VaD. Tentative evidence,  as reported by night-time behaviours within the Neuropsychiatric  Inventory-Questionnaire (NPI-Q), suggests that sleep disturbances could be  common with reports ranging from around 153
